Art Car Parade

Today was the 21st anniversiry of Houston's Art Car Parade which is sponsored by the Orange Show. It was an excellent day besides the 1000 degree sun  beating your brains out. It was actually only 91 degrees but it seems like it was the first really brutal summer day. The heat delerium was a reminder that you are in Houston and of exactly how much beer you drank the night before! Me, my mother and Nephew (John) were the only family members brave enough to endure 2 hours of the hottest part of the day. Well worth the effort! I think we all left feeling inspired or at least the beginings of a stroke!Me and my nephew sweatin balls

The rest of the days pics can be seen in this flickr set..

Are you an Art Car virgin? I have been involved with these guys for many years now. Those in the know have the good sense to sit in the shade. I guess you do have to get there early to get a good shady spot.

The most fun in the rebel Night Cruise. It takes place after all of the good little Art Cars have gone to bed. The cars and their drivers are "lit up" and cruise from the Art Car Museum down Heights Blvd. Draka the Dragon was spitting fire further distances that I have ever seen her in years past. You thought the sun was HOT yesterday. Wait until you see what a 124 foot metal dragon can do. Somehow a trash can even caught fire. Lucky all cars are required to carry fire extinguishers.

Keep an eye out for the pics. Next year you have to join us. We will show you how to do Art Car Weekend right!!!!!

Sorry about the damaged link to the Art Car pics. Try this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/danegr/sets/72157622939125748/
But could potentially see all manner of curiosities that day, anything from a 10 foot tall bicicle to a Diesel truck made from Volkswagen parts to go carts that were shaped like muffins so it would be difficult to say what was really on his mind!  Thanks for giving a read.
